The Margaret Bixler Kolpak Memorial Award

This award is given to honor and recognize an outstanding undergraduate woman, who has combined a major in history WITH outstanding and remarkable service to humanity. Margaret Bixler Kolpak was a ’64 Arts and Letters graduate who passed away in 1991. Her parents, Dr. Andrew Bixler, ’33 ENG, and Ella Bixler, created this fund in Margaret’s memory along with their family members and friends.

Anna Herwin

Anna is a senior, graduating with double majors in Psychology and History, as well as minors in both French and Global & International Studies. Anne completed her Senior Honors Thesis through the Department of Psychology under the direction of Dr. Jenae Neiderhiser, Anna researched her topic of “Drug Initiation Habits as Predicted by Sibling Closeness in Divorced and Nondivorced Families”. In addition to her academic work, Anna has served the Penn State community extensively, especially through her work as a Penn State Student Engagement Network intern and her considerable work with THON. After graduation, begins a two-year M.Ed. program in Higher Education Administration at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College.

Karolyn Kerwin

Karolyn is a senior, graduating with double majors in Political Science and History, and a minor in Military Studies. Karolyn's primary interests are united through her service in the Army ROTC and her studies of American law. This year Karolyn was Charlie Company 1st Sergeant for which she was responsible for planning both the training and mentoring of 70 cadets at Penn State, while last summer she undertook a legal internship. Upon graduation, she will be commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant Adjutant General officer in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and in Fall 2020 she will be attending law school at the Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C.
