Biography:

Frankie Urrutia-Smith is a third-year PhD candidate in early modern global history and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Her research interests include the early modern Spanish Empire, gender history, and the history of the Basque country. Frankie’s dissertation will explore the roles of early modern Basque widows in their families, communities, and the changing cultural landscape of early modern Spain. Frankie earned a BA from Utah State University and has presented at conferences including the Sixteenth Century Conference and the Berkshire Conference of Women’s History. She is currently working under the direction of Amanda Scott.
